I have heard for weight loss, you just eat below your weight (in pounds) with a 0 at the end. So for someone that weighs 200 pounds, they would eat at 2,000 calories or less to lose weight. I am not sure how accurate this is but a lot of people seem to swear by it.
In terms of wanting to gain muscle though, I have not been able to figure out the right amount of calories. I find myself gaining fat, especially in recent months. I am assuming this is because I am eating too much.
Is there an easy calculator or calculation to figure out what calories are best for me to be consuming?
As far as I know, the best way to know for certain is to work with a personal trainer that has knowledge in nutrition. Outside of this, the only calculator I know of that is widely used is the TDEE one. That stands for Total Daily Energy Expenditure. It does not account for actual diet though, just calories.

That is what I was thinking. Needing to work with a nutritional expert which is something I don't want to do at the time. It is either costly or you have to go through a ton of "health hoops" to be able to see one. I wish it was a standard medical practice that anyone can just go see a nutritional doctor but sadly, it is not.
I will look at the TDEE you mentioned. I have heard of it before.
