I know it is possible to gain muscle whilst being a vegetarian as I knew someone who used to wrestle and was one, he was massive! I am just a bit confused by all the options on the market. I read mixed things about all of them and most people seem to agree animal-based protein is the best. I have been a vegetarian now for 5 years. I lost a huge amount of fat so now I want to actually work on improving my body composition by putting on muscle. I just know given my diet, I will need some sort of protein powder.

Does anyone here know enough about vegetarian options to point me in the right direction?

I don't personally use it but I do know pea protein is considered the best and most well-rounded option. It is made from yellow peas which are loaded with amino acids and it can deliver up to 25 grams of protein per serving. That is brand dependent but most are between 20 and 25g. Also, it is said to be comparable to whey protein in terms of hypertrophy. You will need to find something to blend it into though as it tends to be more gritty and has a most "plant flavour" to it which can be off-putting.

Okay, this is something I will look into more to see what my options are. I didn't even know there were yellow peas and that they were different from the green/standard ones! I guess it is true that you learn something new every day lol

I don't think that the plant flavour will bother me too much. I do love my veg. I guess it is just a matter of making it more appealing.
